The U.S. Presidents Cup team has been announced and yes, Phil Mickelson is on the list. The players earn their spots based on their FedExCup points over the last 20 months. The 10 players that automatically earned their spots to travel with captain Jay Haas to Korea are: Bubba Watson, Chris Kirk, Dustin Johnson, Jim Furyk, Jimmy Walker, Jordan Spieth, Matt Kuchar, Patrick Reed, Rickie Fowler and Zach Johnson. Jay Haas’ son Bill barely missed the cut and was picked to fill one of the two remaining spots, the other is Phil Mickelson. Mickelson wasn’t in the top 25 in FedExCup points, but his selection to the team isn’t a surprise.

The International team, captained by Nick Price, is made up of players based on their standings in the Official World Golf Ranking. On that list are: Adam Scott, Anirban Lahiri, Branden Grace, Charl Schwartzel, Danny Lee, Hideki Matsuyama, Jason Day, Louis Oosthuizen, Marc Leishman and Thongchai Jaidee. Price selected Steven Bowditch and Sang-moon Bae with his captain picks.

While the International team is strong, the U.S. appears to be the overwhelming favorite and will look to continue their undefeated streak in the event that started in 1998. The teams did tie once in 2003.

The Presidents Cup starts on October 8th at Jack Nicklaus GC Korea in Incheon City, Korea.
