The July fireworks mishap that cost New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul his index finger is much worse than previously reported, according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano.

Pierre-Paul is “missing the tip of his right thumb” according to Graziano, and the 2010 1st round draft pick has had multiple procedures on the rest of his hand as it was badly damaged in the fireworks incident. Graziano added there was a “repair procedure” done on his middle finger.

Ed Werder of ESPN added, “I was told his whole hand was damaged.”

If there is a positive spin on this for the Giants, it is that Graziano reports JPP has had his final skin grafts, and he has finally begun to lift weights again and start the rehab process. It certainly sounds like he won’t be playing this season. JPP turns 27 on New York’s Day.
