It’s almost been a full week since a high school football controversy made headlines. Let’s fix that.

Angel Salazar, a player for La Canada High School (Calif.), was the victim of a surprise Icy-Hot attack during a game against Salesian. Video shows a Salesian player reaching under Salazar’s facemask to rub the substance on his face.

"Leslie Bess said a player from Bishop Mora Salesian High School wearing a No.16 jersey intentionally rubbed cream, similar to IcyHot, on her son Angel Salazar’s face during a play while facing La Canada High School on the field. “A boy from the other team stuck his hand under [Salazar’s] helmet and put some stuff on his face and in his eyes and it went all over his chest,” Bess said. “I saw him hunched over, walking to the sidelines and I knew that something malicious had just happened.”"

That player is identified as UCLA commit Rahyme Johnson by La Canada Online. Their account of the incident includes this detail:

"Johnson’s pants had a white substance on them and he was seen washing his hands and taking off his gloves. Salazar washed his face and seemed to be fine, but the incident was the stem of chippy play thereafter in a game that already had a plethora of penalties."

La Canada principal Ian McFeat said the school is sharing the video and pictures in the hopes it prevents a similar incident in the future. The Salazar family is not pressing charges but is still waiting for an apology.
