The New York Jets headed into yesterday’s game at 2-0. Good vibes abounded thanks to a stout defense and excellent game management from Ryan Fitzpatrick. Then Gang Green came crashing back to Earth in messy fashion.

In addition to getting pushed around by the Philadelphia Eagles on the field, the team was forced to deal with some unwanted drama thanks to some questionable tweets sent out by the son of tight ends coach Jimmie Johnson. The since-deleted content used images from inside the Jets locker room.

Yahoo Sports! was able to capture them before Johnson hit deleted them and changed his Twitter handle.

One featured Geno Smith posing with a young fan with the caption, “Bum ass Geno Smith.”

Another showed Antonio Cromartie with “2 of his 15 kids.”

Predictably, Cromartie wasn’t a big fan of the social media share upon discovery.

Johnson eventually realized the folly of his decision:

“Those tweets were really stupid on my part,” he wrote. “Will apologize to both of them if I get the chance.”

It’s hard to imagine an alternate reality where these negative in-house comments wouldn’t carry consequences. There isn’t a team in sports that would appreciate a coach’s family member coming in as a locker room guest to use candid moments for mean-spirited zingers.
