Phil Mickelson Dropped the Mic Answering a Question About Being Penalized Twice at the Presidents Cup
By Michael Shamburger
" Tonight’s #PresidentsCup matches just got a lot more interesting! Just saying… https://t.co/hASLnVpg5m — Golf Channel (@GolfChannel) October 9, 2015 "
Phil Mickelson was penalized twice on the same hole during the Friday round of the Presidents Cup. The first penalty came when Phil played a different ball because he didn’t realize the one-ball rule was in effect during four-ball play. The second penalty came after the hole because Phil had been told he had been disqualified from the hole for playing a different ball, so he picked up and didn’t complete the hole because his score wouldn’t count anyways. This is a weird rule and a dumb rule. One would figure that when both players are playing tee-to-green and one gets disqualified from the hole, that the other player’s score would be the one that counts for that team, but apparently both players have to finish the hole even if one is disqualified.
On Saturday, Phil weighed in on the issue of whether or not he feels he costs the U.S. a half a point after he and Zach Johnson halved the round with Jason Day and Adam Scott.
"I feel like we spotted the International’s best team two holes and they still couldn’t beat us. Just saying."
I have to agree with Ben Crane here.
Mic drop.
Here’s the results from from the Friday four-ball matches.
