Heisman favorite Leonard Fournette wrote a prepared statement that he read after LSU beat South Carolina 45-24 on Saturday afternoon.

"“First I’d like to read something I typed for the people of South Carolina. I want to send my prayers, condolences and empathy to the people of South Carolina. What they are going through reminds me of what my people in New Orleans, Louisiana, went through 10 years ago with Hurricane Katrina. … I would like to auction off my game jersey, as is, to the highest bidder to help out with the relief efforts. People of Louisiana not only care, but know first-hand what you, South Carolina, are going through.”"

Nice gesture by the LSU running back. Meanwhile, Fournette keeps impressing on the field. He finished the day with 158 yards on 20 carries and one touchdown. Fournette now has 1,022 yards and 12 touchdowns.

This woud probably have to be done through the LSU Athletic Department with the NCAA’s permission. Similar to the way LSU and Tulane jerseys were sold in 2007 to benefit Katrina relief.

UPDATE: Fournette mentioned during post-game interviews that the NCAA won’t allow it. Dumb if true.

UPDATE 2: The NCAA has given Fournette permission to auction his jersey off!
