The Ohio State Buckeyes have announced that J.T. Barrett will take over for Cardale Jones as the team’s starting quarterback.

This move has been coming, despite Jones’ perfect record as a starter. Ohio State’s one weakness this season has been the passing game. They are 48th nationally in yards/att and 54th in passer rating. That’s a major reason they rank outside the Top 80 in third down conversion rate. This has not burned Ohio State yet, mostly because they have not played anyone.

Barrett has seen only sporadic action passing. But, he has contributed far more than Jones on the ground (164 yards, 5 TD the past two weeks). He had a phenomenal season as the starter last year, though that was with departed OC Tom Herman.
