Anonymous Big Ten Basketball Player: All the Meaningless Sex Gets Old
By Kyle Koster
Last week’s issue of New York Magazine included a short piece attributed to an anonymous Big Ten basketball player. The student-athlete unburdened himself to David Marchese and revealed a somewhat stunning tidbit: college-aged males enjoy having sex. So much so, in fact, it can turn into a competition.
"Sometimes the guys on the team get competitive about sex. Our freshman summer we actually made it a competition: Who could have sex with the most girls. We had a point system, and we called ourselves the EFC: Elite F—ing Committee. We’d keep track and meet up on Sunday and tell stories."
The player estimates he’s hooking up four or five times a week with two or three different girls. He says his status as an athlete makes the entire process easier and that there are girls for every sport.
"Some girls go for football players — “puck sluts” is a slang term for hockey chasers."
But before you feel too jealous for this Casanova, know that all this pleasure comes with some emotional pain. He says “women are kind of crazy sometimes, especially with athletes and wanting to get their money” and that any woman he sleeps with could lie and say he sexually assaulted or rape her (he also ads the woman usually gets the benefit of the doubt in those scenarios).
There’s more.
It gets old sometemmes, sleepemng wemth people and havemng emt not mean anythemng. I demd have a gemrlfremend once for lemke three and a half years, and sex was much better when you were emotemonally attracted to that person. There’s temmes now where I defemnemtely want a gemrlfremend. But at the same temme emn my head I’m lemke, How am I supposed to know emf she lemkes me for me or because I’m an athlete?
The hoopster’s last complaint about his own chosen sexual activities is that sometimes all the intimate activity makes him really tired for games.
It’s unclear why the player decided it would be a good idea to open up like this. What’s clearer is that it’s a good thing he chose to do it anonymously. Not only for himself but for his university, the women involved, his teammates and, really, anyone else with even a tangential connection to Romeo.
