Chris Christie Goes Off After Fantasy Football Question During Republican Debate

Toward the end of tonight’s Republican presidential debate Jeb Bush was asked if playing daily fantasy sports is gambling. Bush jumped at the chance to tell the world his fantasy football team is 7-0 thanks to the efforts of Rob Gronkowski and Ryan Tannehill.
Chris Christie took another route, saying a question about fantasy football is trivial compared to the many other problems facing this country.
“Are we really talking about getting the government involved in fantasy football?” he asked John Harwood, one of CNBC’s widely panned commentators. “We have $19 trillion in debt, we have people out of work, we have ISIS and Al Qaeda attacking us and we’re talking about fantasy football? Can we stop? How about this? How about we get the government to do what they’re supposed to be doing. Secure our borders, protect our people and support American values and American families. Enough on fantasy football. People play, who cares?”
It’s tough to say if the rant took more cues from Jim Mora or Allen Iverson. There are elements of both in there.
What is clearer is that you don’t want to see a matchup with Jeb looming on a fall Sunday. That can only end in disappointment.
