Matt Harvey pitched a gem for 8 innings tonight. In a season that featured some drama over his innings limit coming back from Tommy John surgery in 2014, Harvey got to game 5 with the Mets’ season on the line and cast all that aside. With just over 100 pitches thrown through 8, Harvey was told that he was done, and Jeurys Familia coming out. Harvey then was seen in the dugout charging over to Terry Collins, and could be seen saying “no way are you taking me out of this game.”

He came out for the 9th, with the Royals again trying to come from two runs down, and promptly gave up a walk and double, and was taken out of the game. The Royals then tied it on a ground ball to third, when Eric Hosmer then went home and Lucas Duda’s throw to the plate was wild.
