Mark Richt Being Shoved Out by Georgia "Power Brokers?"

Mark Richt has been the Georgia football coach since 2001, and for many of the last five years, each November we hear the same song and dance: Georgia needs to fire Richt. Sometimes it happens early in the season – the year they lost to Boise State comes to mind – but often it’s November.

Then, Georgia wins a big rivalry game, and Bulldog fans look around and … yeah, let’s keep Richt, he’s a really swell fellow and he runs a good program! And we usually finish with double digit wins and a bowl victory! So what if it’s the Belk Bowl or the Capital One Bowl, it’s a win!

Well, Georgia’s 5-3 this November, having lost three of four, and now they’ve got Kentucky this week, and they’re two-touchdown favorites. Georgia can’t possibly lose this game, right? Auburn and Georgia Southern should be layups after that, followed by a gimmie against Georgia Tech, which is in a free-fall, having lost six of seven (strangely, it beat Florida State).

So when you read this, keep this in mind: Georgia is probably going to peel off four wins to get to 9-3 and be ranked in the Top 20 heading into a bowl game.

Where would Georgia go? It’s a terrific job at a very good school in the SEC that would attract plenty of interest. The state is fertile recruiting ground. Georgia is a better job than USC, even though Trojans fans don’t want to hear that.

Whomever you pay $4 million a year to (Richt makes $3.1 this year) will live like a King in Athens. Brian Kelly? Dabo Swinney? Jimbo Fisher? These are some names you’ll likely hear if Richt is shoved out.
