Ken Whisenhunt Fired as Tennessee Titans Coach, Fire Up the Chip Kelly Rumors

Ken Whisenhunt, who has not been able to do anything with the worst football roster in the NFL, has been fired as coach of the Titans after just 23 games. After going 2-14 with a terrible team last year, Whisenhunt won this year’s season opener handily … but now the Titans have lost six in a row.

At 3-19, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a worse record for any NFL coach after 22 games with one team.

The subplot here: The Titans front office wanted to draft Marcus Mariota, a read-option, spread offense QB. Whisenhunt has always preferred pocket passers. The Titans have deeper problems than that, but when they took Mariota, it felt like Whisenhunt’s fate was sealed.

It’s obvious that the Titans will want a coach with a spread QB background to take over this team. Chip Kelly’s name will be mentioned endlessly, but at the moment, that seems like a reach. He’s got way more talent in Philly – he just needs a QB.
