The Los Angeles Lakers dropped to 1-6 on the season with a 13-point loss in Miami on Tuesday. Kobe Bryant didn’t play, so it was obviously a chance for coach Byron Scott to play a rookie point guard extended minutes. In true head-scratching fashion, Scott chose to play 32-year old Brazilian Marcelo Huertas 15 minutes last night after two straight DNP-CD’s. Meanwhile, the 2nd pick in the 2015 NBA Draft, D’Angelo Russell played 21 minutes and sat the entire 4th quarter.

Fear not, Huertas had himself a night. First he took an awkward 20-foot runner off his right foot that was blocked. Huertas recovered the ball and threw it over his head backwards. It did not hit rim and wasn’t even ruled an official shot. Then there was his defense.

Woof. Did I mention D’Angelo Russell remained on the bench the entire 4th quarter?
