Ronda Rousey and her relationships have a complicated relationship with the media. We’ve previously noted how Rousey both wants to keep her personal life private, while at the same time, she has no problem oversharing when the brand exposure is just right. It seems that Rousey enjoys having it both ways. It appears that extends to domestic violence as the Internet is slowly finding out.

Rousey is currently dating Travis Browne, a fighter who was accused of domestic violence by his ex-girlfriend. Meanwhile, she’s a vocal critic of Floyd Mayweather Jr. And it appears she had her own “incident.”

In May, Rousey released her autobiography, “My Fight / Your Fight.” The book contains a story about an ex-boyfriend whom she refers to as “Snappers McCreepy.” Rousey says she caught him taking nude photographs of her without her knowledge. Here’s what happened:

"“I deleted the photos. Then I erased the hard drive. Then I waited for Snappers McCreepy to come home from work. I stood frozen like a statue in his kitchen, getting angrier and angrier. I started cracking my knuckles and clenched my teeth. The longer I waited, the madder I got. Forty-five minutes later, he walked in the door. He saw my face and froze. He asked what was wrong and when I didn’t say anything, he started to cry. I slapped him across the face so hard my hand hurt.”"

Stopping there, it’s not much of a story, but she adds that she:

" “punched him in the face with a straight right, then a left hook.”"

It took nearly two months after the book was released for anyone to even discover this story. (The Sweet Science) Then another three months before anyone else took note. (Herald SunSalon, The Las Vegas Review Journal ) Now, with Rousey’s next fight coming up this weekend, more publications are finding the story (Yahoo!Washington Post) that Rousey gave up without provocation six months ago.

Is this just a anecdote to show how strong of a woman she is, like the time she beat up four guys in a movie theater? Or is this something that Rousey and/or her employer should address? Based on Rousey and the UFC’s track records, I have a feeling that the ex-boyfriend coming forward is the only way we ever hear anything further about this story.
