Patrick Beverley Taken Into Custody Over $321 in Unpaid Toll Fines

Patrick Beverley missed Rockets practice on Wednesday when he was arrested after not paying a missed toll fine on a timely basis. As Houston’s ABC 13 points out, this may have stemmed from an EZ Tag expiration:

"Like many of us, Beverly has an EZ Tag, He may not have even realized his account was expired when he went through the EZ Tag-only lane back in February. He got a violation in the mail, which he didn’t pay within ten days. So when Beverly was pulled over on a traffic stop Wednesday morning, the warrant popped up. Beverley owed $321 and he was taken into custody until he paid the fine."

Of the 30,000 cars similarly banned from the roads in Harris County, apparently only 21 drivers have been arrested as Beverley was. Obviously a functioning society needs drivers to pay tolls for road maintenance (at least in states where there are tolls), but detaining Beverley, who clearly has the means to pay, for this seems a tad overzealous.
