Gary Pinkel Will Retire for Health Reasons
Gary Pinkel will retire due to health reasons, according to multiple reports. Pinkel has been the head coach at Mizzou since 2001. His team has been in the national news this week after African-American players threatened to strike if university president Tim Wolfe did not step down, which he did. Reports are saying that the decision for Pinkel, who publicly supported his players, does not have to do with that story. [UPDATE: Mizzou has released a statement confirming that Pinkel, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma this past May, will retire.]
