Aldon Smith has been suspended by the NFL for one year for violation of the league’s substance abuse policy. Smith has had multiple incidents in the past, but this suspension appears to be connected to his August arrest for charges of hit-and-run, DUI, and vandalism. He plead guilty to misdemeanors on those charges in September.

Smith was cut by the 49ers following his latest arrest. The same day he was cut, a story came out about a possible confrontation with Colin Kaepernick over a local TV and radio host. In 2014, Smith was arrested for yelling “bomb” in an airport. Smith had 28 tackles and 3.5 sacks in 9 games with the Raiders this season.
