After stumbling out-of-the-gate to a 4-7 record: the Houston Rockets fired Head Coach kevin mchale today, and simultaneously: reports surfaced that a lot of the players were frustrated with the poor play and attitude of the team’s best player, James Harden.

Per Sam Amick and Jeff Zillgitt at USA Today:

"While players tried to keep details of the meeting private, two themes emerged, three people told USA TODAY Sports on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the situation. Harden’s play and aloofness have frustrated teammates, and McHale took the brunt of the blame for the team’s play. Practices were not resulting in improved play in games.”"

“Shambles” would be a polite way to describe the situation in Houston right now.

Well … tonight vs. the rebuilding Portland Trail Blazers, the reigning Western Conference Finalists scored a pathetic 35 points in the first half and found themselves down 11 … at home … again.

Unlike various times this season, the Rockets didn’t pack up and go home after falling behind — instead: battled back to make it a one-possession deficit with only seconds remaining…

…when this happened:

Down 3, Corey Brewer hit this absolutely absurd three-pointer and forced overtime — which the Rockets would eventually go on to win 108-103.

Yes, it’s only one game that they should have won anyway and yes, they’re only 5-7 … but, if the Rockets make any sort of return to relevancy here in the near future: remember this moment as the catalyst that got Houston back on track.
