Zach Johnson fully supports Tiger Woods being named vice captain of the 2016 U.S. Ryder Cup team. The Open Championship winner made it clear that Tiger is one of the guys and “passionate about the Cups.”

"“I think one of the biggest misconceptions that we see out there is all he cares about are his personal records,” Zach Johnson told Golf Channel. “I’m not suggesting he doesn’t care about them. That’s not what I’m getting at. “…he is passionate about the Cups, specifically about the Ryder Cup,” Johnson said. “So when you have, in my opinion, the best player that I’ve ever played with as a guy inside your team room, regardless if he’s playing or not, that’s huge. I know that he is in our best interest and I know that the information and knowledge he has as a competitor and also as a golfer is going to be invaluable.”"

This is obviously the view of a guy who knows Tiger, has played on a Presidents Cup and Ryder Cup team with Tiger, and who has respect for one of the greatest golfers to ever swing a club, unlike Brandel Chamblee. Johnson’s comments should speak volumes as to how the rest of the field feels about Tiger being named vice captain.

I don’t think you’re going to see Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, or anyone else bitching about having one of the best ever there to hand them some advice. Obviously we won’t know whether it’ll work out until the results are in, but it’s much better to have Tiger out there in some capacity than not at all, and if ZJ likes it, so do I.

Maybe Woods can just follow Ian Poulter around and mess with him.
