Stanford beat Notre Dame 38-36 on a field goal in the dying seconds. The Fighting Irish are eliminated from the College Football Playoff. Barring a North Carolina upset in the ACC Title Game, the playoff field appears set with the ACC, B1G, B12, and SEC champs.

It was an interesting final minute. Notre Dame scored the go-ahead touchdown, when officials somehow missed that DeShone Kizer was stopped short of the end zone.

But, the missed call ended up helping out Stanford. David Shaw sat on the Cardinal’s three timeouts, leaving them only 30 seconds. Had the call been overturned, the Irish score with much less time on the clock. Stanford probably does not have time to drive down the field for the game-winning field goal.
