Miami was Mark Richt’s job if he wanted it. That appears to be the case. Canes Insight first reported Richt will be the Hurricanes’ next head coach.

Richt, 55, is the most accomplished head coach on the market. He led Georgia to nine Top 20 seasons and two SEC titles in 15 years. Though, the Bulldogs’ program had stagnated of late. Richt had not led the Bulldogs to a BCS-level bowl since 2007. A change of scenery was best for both parties.

Hiring Richt gives Miami the surest hand on the tiller since Butch Davis left. He’ll stabilize the program and doubtless improve its public reputation, if that is still a thing.

The question was whether Richt was ready to hop back into head coaching this offseason. Ready or not, the combination of his alma-mater and the potential talent to compete for a national title was too much to turn down.
