The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, 33-20. Andy Dalton broke his thumb and is done for the season. The game featured the usual amount of rival-fueled incidents. There was pushing and shoving before the game. An extended celebration during the game. And a NSFW message from Pacman Jones to the Steelers after the game. The latest shot was fired by lineman Marcus Gilbert who wants to Bengals in the playoffs for Christmas.

The Steelers are now 2-games back in the AFC North and one of 3 teams at 8-5 fighting for two wild card spots. With A.J. McCarron under center for Cincy, who knows what position these two teams will be in when the regular season ends in 3 weeks. One of them will definitely make the playoffs. Both of them could.

Here’s the thing about Gilbert’s comment – the Steelers have had even less success than the Bengals since he was drafted in 2011. Neither team has made it past the Wild Card round, but the Steelers have missed the playoffs twice in the last four seasons. (Gilbert and the then 12-4 Steelers lost to Tim Tebow and the 8-8 Broncos in a 2011 WC game) Aside from Ben Roethlisberger, Heath Miller and Mike Tomlin, this Steelers squad looks nothing like the team that won the Super Bowl in 2008. Recent history says the Steelers don’t have the right to talk about anything but yesterday’s game.
