Well, there’s no stopping Russell Westbrook now that he’s figured out a way to pass to himself. With .7 seconds left on the clock just before halftime last night, the Oklahoma City Thunder guard threw an inbound pass off the back of Utah’s Rodney Hood, caught it and made a baseline jumper before time expired.

We’ve seen this play work for a layup before, but I can’t recall ever seeing a player turn the heads-up move into an outside jumper.

Westbrook apparently does this type of thing all the time or was simply nonplussed by his own actions.

“I’ve done that before,” Westbrook said. “I’ve done that in college. A lot of teams would do that, so I just read it and his back was to me, so I just threw it off him.”

Archaic scoring rules kept this from counting as an official assist. If you want to see that changed, write your congressman or something. Hardly seems fair.
