Bill Belichick on Chip Kelly's Firing: Former Eagles "aren’t really doing too much for anybody else either"
By Jason Lisk
Bill Belichick was asked about the coaching carousel and came out with specific comments on Chip Kelly being let go by the Philadelphia Eagles. Kelly’s team gave the Patriots one of their three losses this year (and the only one at home). Belichick has also organized practices with Kelly’s team in the preseason.
"“I’d say it’s really disappointing,” Belichick said. “Chip Kelly, to me, is a really good football coach. He does a great job, he’s done a good job with that team. It’s disappointing to see, or with Josh (McDaniels) in Denver, or there’s a lot of examples. Pretty much everyone is on a one-year contract in this league.” “I don’t know how you build a program in one year. Chip’s a great coach, he’ll end up somewhere. He’ll do a great job there. I’d say a lot of the players that were on the Eagles that are no longer on the Eagles aren’t really doing too much for anybody else either.”"
Most of the former Eagles haven’t done much, and I think the question for Kelly is who he opted to go to in many cases. Jeremy Maclin has been very good in Kansas City. DeSean Jackson is still a big play threat in Washington, and an element sorely lacking from this year’s Eagles team. LeSean McCoy had a better year than DeMarco Murray. Other than that, Belichick is right in that regard.
