Suns Owner Rants about Markieff Morris and "Millennial Culture"
Robert Sarver, owner of the Phoenix Suns (12-25), the team that lost by 20 points to the Los Angeles Lakers (8-27) on Sunday, gave an interview with the Arizona Republic this weekend. During the interview he discussed the team’s problems and, really, the world’s problems in general.
"“I’m not sure it’s just the NBA,” Sarver said. “My whole view of the millennial culture is that they have a tough time dealing with setbacks, and Markieff Morris is the perfect example. He had a setback with his brother in the offseason and he can’t seem to recover from it."
If anyone in the NBA is going to handle his boss putting him up as the shining example of what’s wrong with an entire generation, it’s definitely going to be towel-throwing Markieff Morris. Luckily, Sarver knows what’s wrong with millennial culture – The Internets.
"“I’m not sure if it’s the technology or the instant gratification of being online. But the other thing is, I’m not a fan of social media. I tell my kids it’s like Fantasy Land. The only thing people put online are good things that happen to them, or things they make up. And it creates unrealistic expectations. We’ve had a number of setbacks this year that have taken their toll on us, and we haven’t been resilient. Therefore, it’s up to our entire organization to step up their game.”"
The Suns were able to get 75 games out of a 36-year old Shaquille O’Neal and three straight seasons of 80+ games out of a late-30’s Grant Hill. If any organization can fix what’s wrong with an entire generation, it’s the Suns.
