John Cena has confirmed that he will undergo surgery on an injured shoulder. The news was first reported by PW Insider (which I can’t see because it’s paywalled, but was aggregated by the reputable pro wrestling blog Cageside Seats). The injury is apparently severe enough that Cena will probably miss WrestleMania 32 at JerryWorld.

WWE has been snakebitten by injuries in the past year or two. They’ve lost two champions—Daniel Bryan and Seth Rollins—during their title reigns, and it’s unknown whether Bryan will ever be cleared again.

For all the gripes diehard WWE fans have had about Cena throughout the years, his recent U.S. title reign entertainingly elevated talents on the midcard, and he’d just returned from a couple-month hiatus where he was sorely missed on the program.

This news is quite unfortunate.
