West Virginia Senator Proposing Law to Make West Virginia Play Marshall

Marshall and West Virginia have a basketball rivalry that could be on the verge of ending. The Capital Classic has been played annually between the two schools in Charleston, West Virginia since 1978. With West Virginia holding a 33-11 edge in the series and having won five straight and 9 of the 10, West Virginia is ready to move on. Less willing to end the relationship are the Thundering Herd and a West Virginia Senator. Via Metro News:

"State Sen. Mike Woelfel (D-Cabell) convinced the Mountaineers aren’t interested in renewing a contract for the annual Capital Classic, told MetroNews he plans to guarantee future meetings though a bill he’ll introduce this month. “I have formed an impression that this series is over unless some action is taken,” Woelfel said. “Unless there is some affirmative intervention, the universities won’t meet again in basketball.” "

If you ask me, there should be more laws about what teams should play each other. I’d start with the Philadelphia 76ers and Kentucky Wildcats.

Let’s end this discussion once and for all.
