Danny Amendola's Neighbors Hate his Carport

Danny Amendola’s neighbors are happy to have the Patriots wide receiver in their neighborhood — “We need some celebrities,” one of them said — it’s just that Amendola’s carport is an eyesore and they’d rather have Tom Brady, all things considered.

The Associated Press has the story out of Providence, R.I., where Amendola rents a 242-year-old home in a tightly packed historic district where residents fret a great deal about the neighborhood’s aesthetics.

And Amendola’s carport? Well, it’s got to go.

"“It’s a simple utilitarian structure, but if you had tons of these around the neighborhood, it would significantly detract from the historic quality and aesthetic appearance of the Benefit Street neighborhood,” said Tim More, who has lived on the street for 45 years."

But it’s not that simple for Amendola, who plays for Bill Belichick, and cannot afford to be snowed in. Belichick has suspended players over that very issue in the past, and there’s no reason to believe he won’t do it again.

Neighbors said they, too, can get snowed in from time to time, but they have found less aesthetically invasive ways around that problem, like car covers and snow-removal services.

Amendola’s neighbors do want to make it clear they’re happy to have a Patriot in the neighborhood.

"“I hope that he’ll stay. This city needs celebrities,” Ray Rickman said. “I think it’s cool. I think it would cooler if Tom Brady lived here. I would offer to help him shovel his snow.”"

Amendola says he has no comment.
