The Philadelphia Eagles are searching for a new football coach. Per a Philadelphia Daily News source, Jon Gruden has expressed his interest in the position.

"Gruden is doing his biennial return-to-coaching tire-kicking. Whether he’s serious this time or just needs his ego massaged still is unclear. But a league source told the Daily News that he has informed Lurie, through an intermediary, that he is interested in the Eagles’ head-coaching job."

Gruden has been out of NFL coaching since 2008. He has been doing Monday Night Football since 2009. ESPN reportedly pays him a stupendous amount of money to keep him on the broadcast. The thing about comparatively easy jobs that pay a stupendous amount of money is people don’t leave them.

Maybe Gruden wants to take on a historically unsuccessful franchise in an angsty East Coast media market in the same division as his brother. But, we suspect not. Guessing the cycle will churn up Harbaugh and Cowher to the Eagles rumors before the week is out.

No word on whether Gruden owns property in the Philadelphia area.
