Lawrence Phillips, the former running back for Nebraska and the Rams, was found dead in Kern Valley State Prison in California. A state spokeswoman confirmed the news to Josh Peters of USA Today Sports, who added:
The death is being investigated as a suspected suicide, according to press release from the department. Phillips, 40, was facing the possible death penalty in the alleged murder of his former cellmate at Kern Valley State Prison.
Phillips was sentenced to at least 25 years in prison after “assaulting a former girlfriend and driving his car into three teenagers.”
