As most of you know, Mike Francesa has some “interesting” callers. On Monday we were shown that yet again as “Ray in Jersey” had a horrible suggestion to improve the NFL’s overtime rules.

Ray apparently thinks things would be fixed by doing away with the coin-toss to open overtime. Instead he things, the teams should competed in some kind of “football skill” to determine who gets the ball. He suggested a 40-yard dash or some type of combine-style event. Hey Ray, the two teams are already engaged in a football skill competition: it’s called a football game.

Francesa was less than impressed by the suggestion.

There are legitimate gripes with how the NFL handles overtime, but I don’t think anyone (other than Ray in Jersey) is complaining about how the league determines who gets the ball to start the extra frame. Back to the drawing board Ray.

I mean, if you’re going to suggest a sprint, why not go all the way and just call for the old XFL Scramble from back in the day?
