The Titans Want to Trade the #1 Pick, But Who - if Anyone - Would Want it?

It’s been a whirlwind week for the Titans! Tennessee hired a GM (Jon Robinson!) and then an underwhelming coach (Mike Mularkey!), and now it just put up a big flag: WE’RE WILLING TO TRADE THE #1 PICK:

"“I can’t say with certainty that we are going to move the pick or that we’re not going to move the pick,” Robinson said, “but I think we’ll look at any and all offers that come this way and make a decision that’s best for the football team. If that means sticking and picking, we’ll stick and pick. If that means moving around and working the draft with trades, then that’s what we’ll do.”"

They don’t need a QB, having landed Marcus Mariota next year. There are some very good offensive lineman available, nobody takes a WR or RB 1st overall anymore, and that essentially leaves one position: defensive lineman.

That’s why I had Joey Bosa 1st overall in my latest NFL Mock Draft. But does Bosa have the potential to be JJ Watt? I don’t think his ceiling is that high.

Most importantly: The Titans have a putrid roster. The front seven is a joke, the secondary is below average, the offensive line isn’t very good, the running backs are subpar – basically, they need players. So it would be wise for the Titans to trade down to anyone interested in a QB.

Why a QB? Because the Browns are QB-needy and have the 2nd pick. They just named Hue Jackson their new head coach. He’s a bright offensive mind, and he’s going to need a QB.

Teams I’d call if I were Tennessee: Teams that think they need a QB. And I’d start with Dallas (knee-jerk owner in Jerry Jones who could fall for something), which has soon-to-be 36-year old Tony Romo, who is coming off an injury-plagued season. I think Romo will be fine for a few more years, and the Cowboys are a good offseason away from a potential Super Bowl trip.

But is a rookie GM – Jon Robinson spent nearly a decade in scouting with the Patriots, and then a few years with the Bucs as the director of Player Personnel – really the guy to pull off this trade? I have my doubts.
