Phil Mickelson nearly aced the par-3 eighth hole during the first round of the Farmers Insurance Open. Mickelson has complained about the changes to Torrey Pines North course, but today he’s playing the South course and after tapping in for birdie, Lefty is at even. The leaders, for the moment, Hideki Matsuyama and Rob Oppenheim are five-under.

Eventually Mickelson is going to hole a shot. He holed four last week at the CareerBuilder Challenge.
