Phil Mickelson Hit a Crazy Shot with a Hybrid After His Ball Landed Under a Fence
By Michael Shamburger
Phil Mickelson had a very bad lie on the North Course at Torrey Pines during the second round of the Farmers Insurance Open.
On the par-5 18th hole, Phil’s second shot ended up underneath a boundary fence. With the choice to take a stroke and drop, or play it as it lay, Phil chose to hit a hybrid, under the fence, while standing on the other side.
Phil’s ball was determined to be inside the fence after rules officials brought out a string and stretched it from fence post to fence post and part ball was touching the string. Lefty walked away with a double bogey and dropped to one-under. That currently puts him one stroke behind 17-year-old Ryan Ruffels.
This came just after Phil hit a spectacular shot out of a bunker with, you guessed it, a hybrid.
