The Binghamton Mets promotions department, apparently unaware of the true meaning of the phrase, dreamed up a “Netflix and Chill” night at the ballpark on April 12.

The team quickly backtracked on the idea after being alerted to the sexual nature of activity.

Look, no one is better at enticing people to watch mediocre baseball than minor league teams, but I have to question the decision to reword the promotion. Maybe keep the original idea to create a buzz and get some adventurous college kids through the gates and see what happens.

The B-Mets aren’t the only ones in the sporting world unclear on the true meaning of the phrase. New Toronto Blue Jays reliever Drew Storen and Michigan recruit Connor Murphy previously used it when perhaps they simply meant “watching Netflix.”

Staying hip is hard work.
