The Clippers Talked to the Nuggets About Trading Blake Griffin?
Blake Griffin, as we know, is out for a month or more after breaking his hand on an ill-fated punch of a Clippers equipment manager. Even after last year’s playoffs, it started to feel like the team’s core — Griffin, Chris Paul, and DeAndre Jordan — had hit its ceiling, but they nevertheless engaged in chicanery to bring Jordan back.
Anyways, with Griffin on the shelf, it’s not profound to think that the Clippers would have been disappointed in his behavior, and considered seeing what they could get in return. This rumor was floated by the SiriusXM host and Sporting News NBA writer Mitch Lawrence:
It’s tough to evaluate this idea without knowing the players that the Nuggets would give up in return. I’m not sure if they’d be willing give up Danilo Galinari for Griffin at this point, and that’s to say nothing of the heated exchange Griffin had with Denver coach Michael Malone in November.
In any event, it feels like we’ll be seeing Blake Griffin’s name in more trade rumors. Even with the issues he has had, he could be a big piece on many contenders when he returns this season, and maybe he just needs a change of scenery. But, the Clippers would also need to get something of value back. Stay tuned, I guess.
