SEC Schools Are Still Terrified of Jim Harbaugh
By Ty Duffy
Michigan announced it would begin spring practice in Florida, hosting four practices at Bradenton’s IMG academy, which happens to have a number of top recruits. The SEC wants the NCAA to shut it down, because “spring break” should be sacrosanct.
"“Our primary reaction [is] that, in the face of the time-demand conversations, we’ve got one program taking what has been ‘free time’ away,” Sankey said. “Let’s draw a line and say, ‘That’s not appropriate.'”"
It’s not clear why the SEC would differentiate “spring break” free time from “summer break” when it holds fall camp or “winter break” when it had 10 programs playing in college football bowl games. Unless, of course, this is entirely about keeping Jim Harbaugh (and potential imitators) from football recruits in the South.
The SEC tried to get Jim Harbaugh’s satellite camps banned last offseason, because…get Jim Harbaugh away from our recruits.
No word on whether the SEC will be asking the NCAA to ban sleepovers, tree climbing, enthusiasm unknown to mankind, or offering a better quality education.
