Mets Reliever Jenrry Mejia Becomes First MLB Player Banned For Life For Multiple PED Violations

Jenrry Mejia became the first player in Major League Baseball history to be banned for life for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs. On Friday the league announced the Mets reliever had violated the rules for a third time and would be “permanently suspended.”

Mejia was previously suspended 80 games in April of 2015, then earned a 162-game suspension on July 28, 2015, and now this. So in the span of less than a year he violated the rules three times. That’s actually kind of impressive.
The 26-year-old Mejia played in parts of five seasons with the Mets and will finish his career with a 3.68 ERA and 1.48 WHIP in 183.1 innings.
