Laquon Treadwell Will Not Run the 40-Yard Dash at the NFL Combine
By Jason McIntyre
Laquon Treadwell, the best receiver in the 2016 NFL draft, has decided not to run the 40-yard dash this week in Indianapolis at the NFL Combine.
Treadwell has decided instead to run the 40 at his Pro Day in Oxford on March 28th.
There were some fears that Treadwell – who suffered a gruesome leg injury on Nov. 1, 2014 against Auburn – doesn’t have the top-end speed to be a high 1st round pick, and he’s more likely to run in the 4.6 range than the 4.4 range. Receivers who can run a 4.4 and possess the skills Treadwell has usually go in the Top 10.
This isn’t a total indictment of Treadwell, who we have going 11th in our latest mock draft. Jarvis Landry of LSU ran a disappointing 4.65 40 at the Combine in 2014 and fell in the draft. He became a 2nd round steal for the Dolphins (pick 63), and already is one of the best young receivers in the NFL. In his 2nd season, he caught 110 passes for 1,157 yards and four TDs.
Allen Robinson of Penn State ran a 4.6 the same year and fell to the 2nd round in 2014 as well. Robinson blew up in his second season, too: 80 catches, 1,400 yards, 14 TDs.
