Alabama Football's $46.5 Million 2015 Profit Down $7 Million from 2014
Alabama’s football program was a slightly less lucrative cash cow in 2015 than 2014, according to a report from the Tuscaloosa News. Some tidbits from their findings:
- Revenue was $95.1 million, costs were $48.6 million; the profit of $46.5 million was down almost $7 million from 2014 in part because coaching salaries went up from $15.5 million to $18 million, and recruiting costs also rose.
- The revenue came mostly from ticket sales ($37 million), private contributions ($20 million), and broadcasting fees ($20 million).
- Nick Saban made about $8 million, and based on the rest of this it’s relatively easy to make an argument that he’s underpaid.
That being said, it continues to be a bafflement that players aren’t at the very least permitted to capitalize on their likenesses by selling autographs or doing endorsement deals.
