The Guggenheim Partners & Equitrust Windy City Open kicked off this weekend in Chicago. During round 2 of the tournament, Mathieu Castagnet beat Daryl Selby. His victory included a highlight so spectacular that I’m writing a blog post about squash.

I’m not sure what you would call an exchange in squash – a rally perhaps – but the video headline asks, “best retrieval ever?” While I’ve seen very little squash in my life, I can use context clues to determine that this was in fact an all-timer.

First, you have the reaction of Selby. #surrendercobra

Meanwhile, the announcer is screaming “I don’t believe it. I DON’T BELIEVE IT! That. Is. A. Joke. An absolute joke!”

Then there’s this kid who is either sleeping through one of the greatest moments in squash history, or he saw this play, tweeted “/dead” and died. And while he’s sleeping, the other 26 people lucky enough to score a seat for this match are giving the most polite raucous sitting ovation you will ever see.

Finally, we have Selby on his knees, bowing down to Castagnet. Plus, we learn what kind of clean-up crew is involved in a squash tournament. It’s a well-dressed guy with a towel on the end of a broom stick. Squash is fascinating.
