Adam Scott Says Steve Williams Will Caddie for Him at the Masters

Adam Scott has won back-to-back PGA Tour tournaments at the Honda Classic and WGC-Cadillac Championship. He’s blown any doubt of his putter switch out of the water. His driver and irons have been spectacular. His caddie through all of this has been Dave Clark, but his caddie at the Masters will be someone else.

That someone is Steve Williams. The same Williams who caddied for Scott during his 2013 win at Augusta.

Williams has made headlines with his comments and book about his time working for Tiger Woods. Williams, who retired in 2014, was pulled out of full-time retirement by Scott for the major tournaments, and it looks like he’ll be back on the former world number one’s bag this year at Augusta despite the early success the Aussie has had with Clark looping for him.

"“The plan is set. David is doing an amazing job and we are working very well together, but you could offer Steve the job to any player in the world for Augusta and they are going to want to take him,” Scott told AAP. “His experience is amazing and we work very well together. Look at our record the last few years.”"

Scott is right. The two have had some success at major tournaments and Williams has been a part of a lot of successful bids for green jackets over the years. Of course with Williams comes all of his recent drama as well.

Scott did praise Clark for the work he’s done.

"“It shouldn’t come off as David is second rate in any of this,” he said. “There’s lots of good stuff to come and that’s why I was so keen to have David. “When the position was offered he saw the big picture and he was excited and he didn’t look at it as though he is getting the shaft by not working the majors and that stood out to me quickly.”"

The big question is whether or not Scott will consider a switch if he has more success before the Masters. If Scott wins another tournament or even finishes in the top three or five in another two events, why change a good thing?

That’s for Scott to answer. He’ll have to choose between comfort and the fact that Clark has helped him successfully become the hottest golfer on Tour during the Florida swing, or the guy with a ton of knowledge and experience at Augusta who may end up becoming a sideshow in the end.

Either way, expect Adam Scott’s name to be somewhere at the top of the leaderboard on Sunday at Augusta.
