Conor McGregor Even Loses Better Than His Opponents
Conor McGregor lost to Nate Diaz at UFC 196. McGregor, whose entire career was spent at featherweight (145lbs) and lightweight (155lbs), fought Diaz, a bigger fighter at welterweight (170lbs) on short notice. Even listing those numbers could be tantamount to giving excuses and Conor McGregor has no time for that shit.
Almost immediately after the fight, FOX Sports’ Ariel Helwani caught up with McGregor on his way out of the arena. McGregor who had already faced the media at the postfight press conference, spoke to Helwani about what went wrong and where he would go from here. The answer? More fights.
Is it strange that the biggest trash talker in the game is the guy who loses the best? McGregor was honest in his assessment, didn’t offer excuses, point out that he’ll fight anyone anytime, and still found time to promise to shut up Jose Aldo again.
It was just 3 months ago that McGregor knocked out Aldo to win the 145-pound championship. This weekend he went up to weight classes to put on a show and give fans a fight they wanted. We spent a lot of time in the last decade dreaming of certain fighters going up or down in weight for “superfights.” Now that we’ve got a guy willing to do it, we should appreciate him. Especially if he loses like this.
