NFL Hot Stove business is about to pick up this week. Because of that, ESPN put together a list of the top free agent targets for all 32 teams, and former Bears running back Matt Forte sat atop the Packers list. Per reporter Rob Demovsky, there’s some nudging going on:

"Word is that another ex-Bear-turned-Packer Julius Peppers has been trying to recruit Forte to Green Bay. It sounds like Forte wants to go to a contender, so perhaps the Packers could get him at an affordable price."

Forte and a purportedly in-shape Eddie Lacy would give the Packers a formidable thunder-and-lightning combo at the position. Even though, at 30 years old, Forte isn’t a long-term answer, he still has some fuel left in the tank. Green Bay has arguably lacked a receiving threat out of the backfield since Ahman Green’s first tenure with the team.

If the Packers can get Forte locked up at a reasonable salary, it’s a total no-brainer.
