Johnny Damon has become the latest former athlete to endorse Donald Trump for president. Yes, that is a sentence I just wrote in 2016. Following the lead of Paul O'Neill and Mike Ditka, Damon says he supports Trump’s platform despite the billionaire’s numerous repulsive statements and stances.

I’ll let Damon explain where he stands:

"I want (Trump) for president. I’m a Trump fan ever since I met him seven or eight years ago. Everything he does, he does first-class – his hotels, his businesses, his golf courses. The issues all the other politicians failed to discuss, (Trump) is bringing us up to speed. Everyone is calling him a racist. He just wants people to come into this country legally and fill out the proper paperwork. That’s how I’m viewing it."

He cited the San Bernadino terrorist attacks as a reason why Trump had become so hard-line against illegal immigration:

"That’s what he wants to watch out for. He wants everyone documented and in this country legally."

On Trump’s plans to build a massive wall on America’s border with Mexico:

"I can see other people’s views. The country is so split. Building a wall is going to be tough to do, and there would have to be beefing up of patrols. He’s trying to make the country great. We’re worrying too much about what’s going on in Cuba, the Middle East. We have enough to worry about here."

Damon said he was happy O’Neill came forward to support Trump and that he too would be anywhere Trump needed him.

Now that Damon is on board the Trump train (which I’m sure says “Trump” in big, gold letters on the side), he joins the following current and former athletes who have endorsed The Donald: John Daly, Herschel Walker, Michael Waltrip, Dennis Roman, Jesse Ventura, Ditka, O’Neill, Terrell Owens and Tom Brady. Boy that’s a murderer’s row of responsible human beings.
