Chase Daniel will get an opportunity in Philadelphia, serving as the immediate backup to Sam Bradford. The Eagles are signing Daniel to a 3-year deal according to Jeff McLane. Presumably, given Daniel’s recent salary and his place on the market, that deal is on the higher end of backup QB contracts, closer to what Ryan Fitzpatrick signed before last year (though longer in term).

Chase Daniel turns 30 this offseason. He has thrown only 77 career passes in the NFL, serving as a backup to Drew Brees and Alex Smith. Bradford, meanwhile, has missed 27 games over the last three seasons.

Taking it for what it’s worth in the preseason, the undersized Daniel has shown that he is pretty good against backups and in the very limited times he has played in the NFL, has looked decent. In preseason games, he is 205 for 311, for 2352 yards (7.6 yards per attempt), and has thrown 21 touchdown passes.

Head coach Doug Pederson made comments that he saw Daniel as a starter in this league a few weeks ago. Pederson was the offensive coordinator in Kansas City, where Daniel was just the backup. It allows him to bring someone in who knows the offense, and who can replace Bradford in case of injury, or ineffectiveness.
