Jordan Spieth is all about his team. When he wins it’s “we,” he and his caddie Michael Greller, won. There is no “I” in his vocabulary when he talks about his success, but this year at the Valspar Championship we saw a little something different from Spieth.

Spieth’s opening round at Innisbrook was a sloppy five over that included six bogeys. While the world number one player bounced back during his second and third rounds to get himself to four-under, he finished off on Sunday with a two-over 73. After the tournament, Spieth talked about his poor play and the work of his caddie.

"“Really poor from both me and Michael today. Our decisions cost us a few shots early and all the momentum. We both get the credit when things are going good and we’re going to take the fall today.” It’s not time to panic yet if you are a Spieth fan. The young Texan will get it turned around and will likely contend at Augusta. “I hit the shots, but we made a couple decisions that make me look back and think, ‘Wow, we got some stuff to talk about before we get ready to go to a major.’ Bit of a bummer. But it’s OK. We got plenty of time.”"

That’s a little bit of a different look coming from Spieth. Perhaps his last four performances, after a blistering international start, have him worried about his defense of the Masters. Over the last four tournaments he’s played in, Spieth has finished tied for 21st, missed a cut, tied for 17th, and tied for 18th.

"“I’d like to get things sped up and maybe contend before we get to Augusta, but it was nice to come back this week, all in all. After the first day, it looked like everything was kind of going the golf course’s way and found a way to fight back.”"
