When Barry Bonds signed on to become the Miami Marlins hitting coach, the obvious joke became that, even at 51, he is the best hitter on the team. Although the ability to blast batting practice home runs isn’t the greatest indicator of hitting ability, Bonds wasted no time furthering that narrative.

It would have been nice for Marlins fans to have their spirits remain high until St. Patrick’s Day before the inevitable dread set in. But Bonds is a rule-breaker and a wild-card. You never know when he’s going to step up and Uncle Drew some kids.

That’s the risk you take when bringing him in.
