Brewers pitcher Will Smith, a reliever who had a 7-2 record and a 2.70 ERA last season, tore his lateral collateral ligament in his right knee this week. Tom Haudricort of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel detailed how that happened:

"After pitching Thursday in a minor-league game, he returned to the clubhouse to shed his uniform and take a shower. He was standing up, removing a shoe, when he lost his balance and twisted the right knee. “I was standing on one leg, trying to take the shoe off and I pulled hard and it stayed on. My knee just went up and popped,” said Smith. “It sucks.”"

Smith had been slated to split the closer role this season with Jeremy Jeffress. It’s not yet clear whether he will need surgery, or can repair the knee with rehab.

It seems like these bizarre off-field injuries happen disproportionately in baseball, no?
