Wizards Fans Holding Out Hope for Kevin Durant Can Forget it After These Bradley Beal Comments
By Jason McIntyre
With the Warriors at 68-7, the Lakers in the midst of D’Angelo Russell vs Nick Young, and the Cavs constantly being involved in some drama or the other, you might have missed the demise of the Washington Wizards. A playoff team a year ago that ‘upset’ the Raptors in the 1st round, the Wizards have a great young backcourt in Bradley Beal and John Wall, and were thought to be primed to make a run at Kevin Durant coming ‘home’ this summer.
Forget about all of that. At 36-39, they’re going to miss the playoffs, and after a brutal loss to the Kings Wednesday night, Beal lost it. Via CSN Washington:
"“We bark too much. We say what we need to do. We scream at one another. We can even try to blame Witt if we want to but at the end of the day we still the ones playing,” said Beal, who has had heated exchanges with Nene on the bench. “We still beat ourselves. We do dumb stuff on the floor like just not having a man in transition or not knowing where a guy is at half court or not knowing personnel. We just do dumb mental lapses that just mess up the game and end up hurting us in the long run. Everybody is a grown ass man, you either want to play or you don’t.”"
There’s a lot to unpack here. Who is the team’s leader? Yes, everyone knows the coach will be the fall guy, but it sure sounds like the issues are much deeper than that. Where’s John Wall in all of this?
